My thought process: Huh? -> Huh, 6 cylinders? -> Huh, two smaller pistons? -> Off to the Googles! -> Ah, charging pump. -> Huh, charging pump?

Charge pumps used for scavenging the other four cylinders. Instead of taking in air below the cylinders and transferring it above the piston it was blown in by the two charge pistons.

Man that is so logical and wierd at the same time. It’s logical because if you’re going to lop off two strokes from a fourstroke, you need to leave them somewhere. So put the other two strokes on separate cilinders.
On the other hand, if you’re actually going that route, just make a damn four stroke.
